Have you ever broken the screen of your iPhone? Or have you experienced when your screen started malfunctioning, and you couldn’t get to a mobile phone repair service or do anything to fix it?
There can be many reasons why your screen suddenly stopped functioning, aside from dropping your phone. The common practice when this happens is to restart your iPhone or turn it off.
Usually, you turn off your iPhone by long-pressing the Lock/Unlock button on the right side of your device. Your screen should prompt you with a Slide to Power Off slider.
You would have to use your screen to slide the toggle to finally turn off your iPhone. In addition, getting online assignment help will help you write a paper if you have any issues with a screen.
So what if you can’t use the screen to turn off your iPhone because it’s broken? By the way, if you want to learn more about smartphone software development, Thoughtsoncloud is a great place to start.
How to Turn Off iPhone Without Screen (with Home Button)
Apple has considered this possible situation and designed its iPhones accordingly. Depending on the iPhone model you own, there are two ways to turn off your iPhone without a touch screen.
If you’re using an iPhone that still has a Home button, here are the steps to take to turn off your iPhone without using your touch screen:
- Press and hold the Lock/Unlock button located either at the top or on the right side of your iPhone. The location of this button depends on the model of your iPhone.
- Simultaneously, press and hold the Home button located below the screen of your iPhone. Both buttons should be long-pressed and held at the same time.

To turn off the X with no touchscreen, quickly press and release volume up, then volume down, then hold the power button until screen blacks out and then bounce on the power button again (dead without touchscreen). Found it here by trial and error…
This worked the first time it turned on after shutting it down still didn’t work but then I did it again and when it turned on I was able to slide

I tried your troubleshooting recommendations, and my phone won’t turn off..yes I have a cracked screen, but it’s been like that for over a year..is there another way to turn off my phone to restart? Everything looks normal when you glance at my phone but none of the buttons work and it won’t shut down. Thank you
A confirmation pop-up was stuck on my screen and I didn’t know how to get rid of it. I happen to come across this page and it fixed my problem.
“Press and release the Volume Up button. Do not long-press or hold the button.
Do the same to the Volume Down button. Press and immediately release.
Press and hold the Lock/Unlock button until your iPhone screen shuts down. Release the button for the final turn off.
If you wish to restart your device, do not release the Lock/Unlock button. Instead, hold it until your iPhone restarts.”
I tried this. but my phone keep turn on. My touchscreen is unresponsive and my alarm keep ringing. Please help.
my iphone 5 screen is broken (does not work at all) and the home button is broken. i need to turn it off. how do i do this?
i already tried holding the power button and the volume button down at the same time. it doesn’t work because i can’t slide the power on the screen.
the screen doesnt work so these steps are wrong, these different procedures all just reset the phone and it turns back on again, I cannot slide it off because the screen is broken, holding both buttons for any amount of time restarts and does not shut off. this article isn’t helpful and is generally misleading
also, danny
I don’t know why you’re yelling at him when you clearly didn’t read the first two titles of the instructions which say “how to shut off without a screen”, (without a screen is key here) which then goes on to instruct you to slide your touch screen or go into a menu. This is illogical and super annoying, it’s probably a mistake but it’s so glaring and obvious that it’s actually pretty frustrating

how to enter pascode without touch screen
I tried this. but my phone keep turn on. My touchscreen is unresponsive and my alarm keep ringing. Please help.
This probably wont get posted but you wrote to slide on the screen when the screen is presumed to not be working. Please kill yourself you worthless fuckup why the fuck does this even appear in a google search you dumb motherfuceker
Hmmm. Maybe you should have read the article before saying this? Now you just look pretty retarded because it says how to do it without the slide 🙂
very harsh when you have not even read the whole post….you my friend are called a TROLL
I have the solution. This is the first time I have ever pitched in on one of these, but the answer to this question has been so hard to find and there seems to be hundred of JABRONI’S like Aryan who provide “solutions” that require you to use your screen.
And his 3rd and final technique (the one he added in after serving up two piles of poop) also fails to provide a solution.
But “fret not”, I have the answer.
Do step 3, but hold down the sleep button until the phone once the screen shuts off, turns on, and shuts off again. When the apple disappears and the screen goes black a second time (like my ex-wife), release the button.
Thank You!!! Instead of posting I decided to read everyone’s comments first since I knew I couldn’t be the only one going through this, and low and behold I found your awesome info!! My phone was calling emergency numbers and everything so I greatly appreciated this.
Thank you Michael you genius!!! Was about to take a hammer to the phone!
whoever posted this pissed me off so fucking much. WHEN YOU CANNOT USE THE TOUCHSCREEEEEENNNNNN Jesus read for christ sake. shoot out MICHAEL for posting the real answer,
THANK YOU!!! i have an iphone 8+ with a broken screen and my alarm has been going off for over 3 hours! This was the only thing that worked at turning it OFF, not a reset. Thank you for saving my sanity!
Thank you, good sir!
who hurt you?
I have been looking everywhere for something helpful due to my screen glitching and me having my emergency call functions not allowing me to factory reset by holding down volume buttons. Apple had no help. You were the first to actually provide beneficial alternatives, thank you!
I was having the same issue with an iphone8, and found the key for this hack was to ensure the phone was “awake” before momentarily pressing the Up volume then Down volume buttons and finally pressing and holding the Sleep-Wake button. Within 10 seconds the phone shut off then began to reboot. Once back up all was working once again.
The screen on my iphone 6 has got cracked and I can’t use it. The phone thinks I’ve been trying to unlock it using wrong numbers so it says the phone is locked. The alarm keeps going off, I assume it thinks I keep snoozing it! I’ve tried to turn it off by holding the sleep button and home button simultaneously, the screen goes black but as soon as I release the buttons it comes back on. Please have you got any suggestions as to how I can turn off the phone? Thank you. Paula Wainwright.
Thank You, the First Website i Discovered which actually tells how to power off the iPhone and not only restart it. Much appreciated!
No this totally worked, i had an app frozen to my screen and i pressed up, down, then held the power button down. She worked thank the lordddd
