What’s the main use for your iPhone? I bet I wouldn’t be off the mark if I say social networking, browsing the web, playing games, and communicating with others via the more “traditional” ways, i.e. calling and texting.

I’m pretty sure, though, that you also use apps that help you live a more healthy lifestyle, but this guy’s experience takes that purpose to a whole new level.

Federico Viticci was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma (Stage IV) in 2011 and after years of difficult experiences with various kinds of treatment, he finally beat this horrible disease.

However, as Federico himself shares, he has never been the ‘healthy living’ type of person. He lived a sedentary lifestyle. He ate “carelessly” and didn’t exercise. Even after surviving cancer.

His thinking was “If cancer couldn’t kill me, did McDonald’s really have a chance?”.

Then he realized that his attitude was stupid (his own word) and that he ought to make the most of his second chance at life. That he ought to live more healthily.

Guess what he turned to for help?

The iPhone.

There is an app for almost everything to get healthy – from calorie counters, to step counters, to sleep monitors to exercise routines.

Everyone knows that. But how many people actually turn over a new leaf (for real) using these apps?

Federico did, and while his case is rather unique, I think it can serve as an inspiration for all of us. In a nutshell, this is what he did:

I bought a Fitbit and then a Jawbone UP; a Withings Smart Body Analyzer; I tested MyFitnessPal and Lifesum for months; I signed up for FitStar and downloaded dozens of apps from the App Store. I wasn’t just obsessing about tools without actually doing anything: I started exercising every day, eating better, drinking more water, and going to bed at more decent times.

Anyone can do it. The tools are there. It all boils down to the mindset and determination.
