We’re seeing indication that Apple may be using more sapphire glass in their products in the future. So it looks like we’re going to see sapphire glass screens – maybe on the next iPhone, maybe on the iWatch (when Apple finally gets around to it), maybe as part of the next iPad…who knows?
The hype is high, though; but while the material does seem to be superior to Corning’s Gorilla Glass in many ways, the debate is not totally over, especially considering costs, among many other factors.
If it all boils down to strength, though, sapphire glass has just proven to be quite impressive. Take a look at this video showing just how strong sapphire glass is.
It’s simple: sapphire glass protects an iPhone from a huge block of concrete; and not only does the iPhone survive – it barely gets scratched!
