It seems like I’m always online for one reason or another, but even though I am, most tech sites – including Apple Gazette – seem to go offline or the posts drastically drop off. That’s why today, we’re going to talk about the iPhone 4 and why it’s taking so long to get out there.
I don’t like the iPhone 4 in white. To me, I think the visible front camera and proximity sensor is a bit much, and can be kinda tacky. But I love the backside in white, and I think that some people will love it to death. It’s been taking a long time to get out to market though, which made me wonder why. Fortunately, Engadget had an answer:
Now, a worker from Lens’ quality control department has allegedly admitted that the company’s screen-printing workshop may currently be dealing with some issues with the white iPhone 4 covers. Specifically, the factory’s still working out the perfect combination of paint thickness and opacity — the former to ensure the next sub-contractor has enough clearance for the digitizer overlay, and the latter for the absolute whiteness that Jony Ive and co. strive for.
Ever gone out to Home Depot and gone shopping for white paint? There’s like 30 bazillion different shades of white, and that can be confusing. Apple wants one specific shade, which can be done, but it may look different when shined through the glass. Since this is all about perfection, it makes sense for the delay.
In case you haven’t heard yet, the iPhone 4 in white is coming out later this month.
