Need an even quicker way to open up Spotlight?
Just hit the keyboard shortcut: +Space Bar and you can start typing away to find whatever it is you’re looking for.

I had always been aware of this shortcut, since the first Spotlight demos and I’ve never used anything else. However, a very computer-savvy friend of mine used it for several months without knowing not only about the keyboard shortcut, but about the spotlight menu item. He always went to Finder and searched there. So, this tip is not as obvious as it seems.
Holding down the Option key while hitting Command + Space Bar opens spotlight Search in a window:
Command + Space = Spotlight
Command + Option + Space = Spotlight in a window
Cheers
