Apple added new features to iTunes — playlist creation and sharing — to enhance the social sharing aspect of Ping.
The new features were added quietly and are part of Apple’s interest in making Ping more social. Anyone part of the social network can import their playlists from iTunes and share it with their friends. Ping also supports playlist creation which remain editable once published. Users can choose if their friends can add songs to their published playlists.
While Ping has gained new features, some think it’s failing in terms of user adoption. Apple’s inability to strike a deal with Facebook that would have integrated Ping in to the social network essentially knee-capped its potential. Apple has since moved to Twitter to extend the social functionality of Ping but fails to capture interaction with users.
