Editing photos can be a pain, especially for people who don’t really have a touch for this kind of activity – people like me, to be honest. When working online, however, it is rather important that you know at least the basics so that you can manipulate images for your blog or site.
And for that, I – together with countless users – have been mainly using the web interface of Pixlr, since it does pretty much all I need to do without requiring a lot of learning, and yes, it’s free. For the more advanced features, they charge a mere $2 per year, which is peanuts for those who actually need and use those features.
Now, there is a new Pixlr for desktop, and it is also free!
While users can still use Pixlr mobile and web apps, Pixlr for desktop provides a whole bunch of features for high-powered editing without having to connect to the Internet. You can use it without having an account – provided you download the software, of course – but if you do sign up for the free account, you can unlock some more effects.

Obviously, pros will not see Pixlr for desktop as a replacement for Photoshop, but for the average person who needs to edit photos, this software will more than suffice.
It’s available for Mac and Windows, but you’ll be wanting to download the latter, of course. Get Pixlr for desktop here.
