id Software has released the extremely interactive and gory first-person shooter RAGE for all iOS devices. The game is a scaled down version of the forthcoming Mac/PC release but packs a visual punch.
RAGE, priced at an extremely affordable $0.99 for the Standard Definition version of the game and only $1.99 for the High Def version is sure to be game of the year for iOS. This rails-shooter is available for any iOS device from the iPod Touch to the iPad. What sets this game apart: an excellent price, beautiful graphics (if accurately rendered mutant mutilation is up your alley) and of course, excellent iOS controls
John Carmack of id Software talked to TUAW about the game:
“All of the user interface is at twice the resolution, the animated characters are at twice the precision, and the world textures are at twice the feedback bias, which doesn’t quite equate to twice the pixel density, but it’s almost twice the data that goes in there.”
Carmack also talked about a previously unmentioned feature in RAGE: playing the game on a TV. While the game doesn’t redraw the controls for playing it on a TV or support an iPod Touch/iPhone as a second controller, the feature is being refined.
