My wife and I first bought a pair of iPhone 3Gs back in the summer of 2008, just after they came out. The following year, I called up AT&T, like many iPhone people did, and asked if I could upgrade without the penalty. Turns out I did, but my wife didn’t, so I got the 3GS, and she stuck with her 3G. I also sold my 3G on Craigslist and made a pretty penny, making it a cash neutral deal.
It’s been going around the internet recently that AT&T has changed their upgrade dates for the iPhone, moving it up. Out of curiosity, I decided to check out my account and see what the upgrade path would be like. It’s no surprise, but my wife’s phone is eligible for an upgrade – it has been 2 years, after all. But it looks like I might be able to get a full upgrade on a new iPhone come June 20th.
That’s excellent news, of course, because I am planning on purchasing an iPhone when it comes out this summer. I’m not positive that I’ll buy one on launch day as I have in the past, that mostly depends on the phone itself and my financial situation at the time. But if I can sell my 3GS on Craigslist like I did last time, then I think I’ll be set.
