Apple releases Safari 3.1

Apple today announced the release of Safari 3.1 for both Mac and Windows. Apple’s press release focuses almost entirely on speed, touting all the various things that Safari can do faster than any other browser.

In addition to speed, though, Safari 3.1 does have some interesting improvements. It is the first browser to support audio and video tags of HTML 5, CSS Animations, and even CSS Web fonts.

“Safari 3.1 for Mac and Windows is blazingly fast, easy to use and features an elegant user interface,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “And best of all, Safari supports the latest audio, video and animation standards for an industry-leading Web 2.0 experience.”

You can downloaded the latest version of Safari (which will require a restart) by clicking right here.

I see 3.1 still has not fixed your “search on applegazette” text field when viewed on a PC.
