Thieves Steal Almost 50 MacBooks from Oregon School

Howard Elementary School in Eugene, Oregon, has been hit by a string of burglaries in the past year, and this latest time, they took 47 MacBooks from the campus. These computers were used primarily by first and second grade students at the technology-driven school. As it turns out, there are 298 kids in the school, and every one of them has a laptop for their studies. This all comes from Oregon Live.com, the online version of The Oregonian newspaper.

This hits me on two levels. First, I hate hearing about schools getting ripped off. Whether you’re a parent or not, we’ve all been to school at some point in our lives, and taking things from kids is cold hearted and just wrong.

On the other side, I’m amazed that the entire school has laptops for the kids. I remember going to school and we had a computer lab, where we all had to go to one room and play with Paint on the Apple II for an hour or so. It makes me wonder what my son’s going to have at school in a few years.
