Reader Feedback Request: Apple Gazette – the book?

Table of Contents

At Macworld, one of the booths I stopped by was Blurb.com. If you’ve never heard of the company, they produce full color, high quality, soft and hardcover books – very much like iPhoto books, but it a many more options and templates designed for more than just photos.

I was so impressed with the quality of the books, that I started thinking about putting together a collection of articles from the site. I mentioned this idea on the podcast during Macworld, and received some positive feedback – but before I jump headlong into this, I want to get a feel for the level of interest here on the site.

The book would be full color with new graphics in most of the articles, and would be divided into Rants, History, Lists, and maybe Events – highlighting some of the best articles on the site during 2006-2007. There would be some new content in the book as well, that has never appeared here on the site – and a website gallery showcasing the different designs the site has had over the past two years.

I don’t know the exact price for the book yet, because I don’t know a final page count yet – but it would be under $20 (before sales tax and shipping).

In the end, I might use another publishing service like Lulu over Blurb – it just depends on where I can find the best deal on the final product.

SO – what do you think? I need your feedback. I’m no sure there is enough interest for something like this – it’s one of those “late night ideas” that I thought I would ask you, the Apple Gazette community, about. Feel free to take the poll, comment below, or send me an email at michael(at)applegazette(dot)com with your thoughts on this.

  1. I think Michael that the idea is great. TUAW or engadget or Gizmodo can do this now. But apple Gazette is still young. At least wait for another year because the past year would be about the iphone news and now the macbook air. It would be a book about Apple related stuff so lets wait for another year to give a chance for lots of good stories to be included in your book.

  2. Lifehacker blog already does this and I think its a huge success since they are publishing their second book soon.

  3. Not that AG is bad or poorly written, but no… The site is too young and more on the current Apple news happenings to make a good reference book out of it. Keep plugging along!

  4. Yeah, you guys are probably right. Maybe in a year or two.

Still might work on an Apple related book project, though. I got an idea that might be worth pursuing that doesn’t consist of previously published AG content.

We’ll see – first I have to get over this head cold.

    😛
