Desktopia is a great little freeware application for those of you that can’t help but constantly change your desktop background. Desktopia takes it to a whole new level, making your background change throughout the day.

It’s bundled with a backgrounds to get you started, but you can customize it however you like. For example, you can have a desktop sunrise when you wake up, a cool summer day in mid afternoon, and a starry sky at night (now, one could argue that those things are out your window – but who has time for that?).

  1. yay for software spotlights! i’ve been using that app for a while quite some time back… it works like a charm. by now, i like to stick to single wallpapers though.

  2. I used Desktopia once upon a time and really enjoyed the program, but it takes up a lot of RAM and I wouldn’t recommend it for notebooks because of the battery life issues.

  3. well… you *could* use an app like photoshop to play around with one image by yourself, creating different versions for different times of the day, and then setting those up in desktopia. that involves a certain amount of tinkering, of course.

  4. I think if an app like that could control the saturation and brightness of your desktop image throughout the day to mimic day and night situations. This would be a neat feature. Right?

  5. The program is okay. I’ve been using it for a few days. It’s not what you might expect. You can’t edit the time when an image appears only if you disable it, you can’t customize the toolbar, there is nothing in the menu bar that might be useful. It’s lagging a little friendliness, at least for me.

It hasn’t been updated for a long time and it feels pretty much like a windoze app. No effects 😛 Desktop just canges. no transition no nothing. instant . . as one would say: “Boom!”
