Mapquest launches iPhone formatted site

Mapquest is vying for your eyeballs on the iPhone through a new iPhone-optimized version of their site. The service works much the same as the native Google Maps application on the phone, but the Google app has the added benefit of being integrated into the software of the iPhone itself.

I’m not sure I see a need to use MapQuest like this – but if you prefer them over Google Maps then you should be excited. Frankly, I’d like to know if they’ve attempted to make a native app for the iPhone.

I wonder if a competing Map service would be off limits too?
