I wrote about the Marvel Comics app [iTunes link] for the iPad and iPhone a few months back, and in that post, I talked a bit about my love of comics.
Apps like this truly show off the capabilities of the iPad. Sure, you could read these on your iPhone, and I’m sure it would be a lot of fun. But the iPad’s large real estate is perfect for comics, and when combined with the brilliant colors, it really takes you back. Frankly, I’m just hoping that DC doesn’t come out with something similar, because I would surely lose my life’s savings.
Well it looks like I’m going to have to crack open the piggy bank, because DC has gone and done it. Jerks.
The new DC Comics iPad and iPhone app [iTunes link] is based on the same engine that Marvel uses, developed by ComiXology. They really have the lock on this whole “getting printed materials on the iPhone in an efficient manner” thing, and the DC app is now released in just as polished a form as the Marvel version. As of right now, the content is a bit light. with only 9 Batman titles available when I checked, but I imagine that will change as the months go on. I’m hoping that some of those comics that I always wanted to read – Batman: Hush, for example – get onto the iPad. Then I can enjoy my comics on the road.
Man, this all makes me so happy to live in a time when I can be in my 30s and read comic books on my futuristic device. Rad.
