The people at Colorware have made a name for themselves by applying a colored finish to TVs, computers, and mobile phones, but they’ve never come out with a unique problem of their own. Now they’ve decided to step outside of the box and make a product of their own, and it’s a bit of a doozy.

It’s called the Grip for iPad, and it’s a perimeter style case with a handle built into the design. Naturally, you can order it in a variety of different color combinations, so you can make it look as custom as you like.

So the problem? It’s $300. Seriously. Oh, and according to Engadget, it’s got a few other issues as well:

You see, as nice as it is to have a handle on your tablet at all times, it makes actually using the iPad in portrait mode practically impossible. You’re constantly trying to figure out how to work around that bulge that’s now there on the left side. Furthermore, it does essentially nothing for protection. The back is still wide open and susceptible to drops / scratches, and the front isn’t recessed in the least. Adding insult to multiple injuries, there’s not enough room to have a case wrapped around your iPad while it’s inside of the Grip. Oh, and did we mention that the slightest bump against a rough surface will rip the paint right off of the device?

So for $300, you get a case that’s easily scratched, doesn’t really protect the iPad and even makes it more difficult to use? Sign me up for three.
