Using the iPhone 4 as your camcorder is nice, but without a solid tripod mount, it’s difficult to get nice, steady shots. Everything looks like you’re watching Cloverfield or The Blair Witch Project. Up until now, I haven’t heard of any steadicam designe for the iPhone 4 – or iPhone at all, frankly – but now, someone has gone out and done it.
His name is Spencer Watson, and he’s a writer and photographer from Portland, Oregon. He built a steadicam for the iPhone 4 that runs about $40 in materials from all sorts of different places, all of them readily available. Frankly, you might have some of these parts already.
Of course, if you want to go really high end, you can buy yourself a big time steadicam, like the Tiffen Steadicam Smoothee, pictured below.
Impressive, right? Well if you get one, be sure that you want to do a lot of professional-ish video work with it, because it’s not cheap. Retail price? “Under $200” says the press release, but it’s still a guess as to where this thing is going to sit in the market.
So there you have it, two steadicams of varying prices. Who wants to shoot some video?
