Ah, technology. We all love it, but fact is, most public schools are running Windows 95 on a Compaq with a 56k modem, making our kids suffer with inferior equipment. Turns out that not every school district is thinking this way, as the Pamlico County Primary School in Bayboro, North Carolina, will be getting a bundle of  iPod Touch portables for use as a learning tool, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, phonemic awareness and reading fluency.

Now if you ask me, this works out pretty well. Teachers can use iPhone/iPod Touch apps to help teach their students the basics, and make it fun at the same time. But if they want to get really funky, they could even develop their own app with specific guidelines and rules, to help bring the  curriculum to the students exactly how they want to. It’s a pretty cool concept, and I hope other schools pick up on this too.
