Controversial WikiLeaks App Pulled From App Store

Table of Contents

WikiLeaks, which has made headlines recently for the distribution of thousands (and counting) of US cables between diplomats, arrived on the App Store in the form of an unofficial App. However, Apple has opted to pull the App which is no longer avilable to purchase.

The $1.99 App was removed from the App Store without any explanation although many thought the sensitive nature of the information being shared likely prompted Apple to take action. While many will be quick to cry censorship, Apple could have removed the App for another reason: raising money for a charity.

Apple states that collecting money for charity from iOS App sales is not allowed. The developer behind the unofficial WikiLeaks App was donating half of the profit to WikiLeaks.
