AutoCad Coming to Mac

My wife and I both enjoy Apple products, but I’ve been more into them than her for a little while now. That’s mostly because of her work as a kitchen designer, which requires her to use AutoCad and other Windows-only products. If it weren’t for that, she’d probably switch over to a Mac tomorrow.

Strangely enough, it looks like tomorrow AutoDesk, the makers of AutoCad, are announcing a Mac version of the popular program. Well, at least according to the Wall Street Journal, anyways.

SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)-Autodesk Inc. (ADSK) is expected to announce on Tuesday that its AutoCAD software will soon be available for Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPad, iPhone and Mac computers, a development that may boost acceptance of Apple’s systems among corporate customers.

The popular 3D design, engineering and entertainment software has been specifically created for Apple’s handheld devices, Autodesk said in the announcement which was seen by Dow Jones Newswires. The specialized mobile version, dubbed “AutoCAD WS” will be released alongside its counterpart for the Mac platform this fall in Europe and North America.

Combine that with GigaOM’s statement:

Nearly 5000 folks participated in the beta testing of the native version of the AutoCAD for Mac, and Autodesk is simultaneously launching a new, free app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch that would allow owners of AutoCAD software to edit and share files on these devices.

This means that my wife could use a MacBook and her iPhone to get the job done. Seems like a perfect plan to me.
