New York is “Hell” according to the iPhone

img_9003.jpg

This is something interesting…Apparently, when you type in “Hell” in the iPhone weather widget, the first thing that pops up is “New York, NY”. NY is followed by Hellertown, PA, Hellier, KY, Hellin, and Castilla-La Mancha(Spain). Interestingly, Hell, Michigan, which is a real place, isn’t listed at all.

This is one of those little “easter eggs” that sometimes get put into applications, and I’m sure someone is probably going to get in trouble now that it’s been on digg, and will no doubt propagate throughout the web.

Personally, i don’t think it’s a big deal, but I’m sure there are some New Yorkers out there who will take offense. What do you think? Should this upset anyone?

    No chance that that’s referring to Hell’s Kitchen, New York, is it?

  2. Michael says:

    @Seth

    I suppose that’s possible, but I doubt it. That may make for a good excuse, though.

    more likely hidden aliases than easter eggs,

    any new yorker who would get upset by that, is only worthy of being a stereotypical new yorker,

    Michael–

    Dude, of course it is a reference to Hell’s Kitchen. This is a non-story.

    @Jake

    Maybe so, and I would agree its certainly not a “huge” story, but I do find it odd that when I type in “hells kitchen” I don’t get anything. Now, if I type in “Hell’s Kitchen” I get New York…so that makes sense, but why make Hell bring up New York and not Hells Kitchen?

  7. mikelite says:

    they’ve obviously never been to st. louis

  8. Bryan says:

    I would have put Detroit in the top spot….

  9. robrt says:

    Hell does not yield New York, New York on my iPhone’s weather widget.

  10. Michael says:

    @robrt

    That’s interesting…It does on mine – what version of the software are you running?
