Rumor: 11.5-inch MacBook Air Coming Soon

Back in the day, before I ever owned an Apple computer, I lusted after them secretly. My neighbor had a G5 tower, which looked beautiful sitting next to his fancy 20-inch monitor, and another friend of mine had a PowerBook that looked so pretty and shiny. I did a scant amount of research on the Apple laptop lineup, and fell in love with the 12-inch PowerBook. To me, it was perfect. It was small enough to go anywhere I needed to with no concerns, but it still had a full-size keyboard that made typing a breeze. I wanted one badly, but alas, it was discontinued by the time I was ready to pull the trigger. Oh well.

Currently, the hot rumor is that Apple is introducing a smaller MacBook Air, that’s 11.6 inches wide (see here, here, and here). Shrinking the already tiny Air down to .1 inches thick would be a pretty amazing feat, but not totally impossible if they decided to use the right hardware. Question is, do they need to do that? The iPad has already filled my need for an extremely small portable computer, so I’m not quite sure that the Air even fits in the lineup anymore. Is it selling well enough that it needs a refresh or will it get pushed aside?

Once again, this is all speculation. But if they do come out with a small MacBook Air, it sure would be neat to see in person.
