Logitech Control Center Updated for Snow Leopard

Ever know someone who just wasn’t satisfied with status quo? If you didn’t, let me introduce you to someone. Me. Last week I wrote about the Microsoft Notebook Mouse, and about how my free score was finally making me happy with my mouse situation. Thing is, there’s a bit more to the story. let me elaborate.

I purchased a Kensington mouse for my iMac back in ’07, and I loved it. No problems, worked great, everything was cool. Problem is, they stopped making it, so when I got a new job back in ’08 and needed a mouse, I had to buy a new one, so I purchased a Logitech Corded Mouse M500, with laser sights and all that stuff. It worked well, but I had two problems with it: 1. The coating on the sides started to flake off, making it sticky feeling to touch, and 2. When I updated to Snow Leopard, it broke the Logitech Control Panel, and now the third, fourth and fifth buttons wouldn’t work. I decided to try the Microsoft mouse because it was cordless and free, but the scroll wheel was driving me nuts. I wasn’t going to toss the thing, but using it every day was just not going to happen. Time to do some more research.

So on last Friday the 12th, I did some more searching, and since I had some good luck with Logitech, I went back to their site. I came across the Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b, and I figured that was a good one to check out. As I’m going through the specs, I figured I’d check and see if the drivers had been updated. Sure enough, they had. That very day. I grabbed my old mouse out of the drawer, installed the drivers and next thing I know, I’m back to a fully functioning mouse.

Sure, the mouse is still sticky feeling, but for now, it works better than anything else I’ve got. Maybe I’ll look into that Logitech M555b, but it’s not too high on my priority list. In the meantime, I’m just happy that I stumbled upon an easy fix.
