More Apple Stores Closing Again Due to COVID Resurgence

You’re probably wondering why the Apple Store nearest you is still closed despite news of some Apple stores re-opening have surfaced. If that’s the case, there’s a high chance that that Apple store is among those that have been closed again due to the COVID resurgence in your state. Understandably, Apple has decided to re-close its stores in specific areas that are seeing significant spikes in COVID infections.

By the end of this month, Apple will be temporarily closing at least 32 stores in five states in the US. If the situation worsens in other areas, the same closures may be expected. To give a recap, Apple initially began closing its stores in March due to the spread of the coronavirus. The company began reopening stores in May in areas where quarantine restrictions have loosened.

Apple was among the first retail companies to spearhead the closure of its stores in the US in March for safety measures. Now that it’s opening some of its stores again, Apple has established safety protocols to prevent the infection from resurfacing or spreading. Some of these include the requirement of wearing face masks as well as temperature checks and limiting capacity.

At present, Apple has reopened 28 stores across the states of Colorado, Maryland, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Virginia. Simultaneously, it has closed 11 stores across the states of Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, and South Carolina where COVID resurgence was found. Seven stores in the area of Houston were also just recently closed again.

In addition to that, the latest closures of Apple stores just took place last Friday when the company closed an additional 14 stores in Florida. Apple released a statement regarding the re-closing of their stores: “Due to current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.”

It seems that the biggest factor that indicates whether an Apple store would remain open is the rate of spread of the coronavirus in that area. If the data indicates that the virus is continuously spreading in that region, Apple will be taking action to ensure the safety of its employees as well as its patrons. In case you’re wondering, the decision to reopen or re-close an Apple store is based on data assessment on certain key factors. This includes locally infected cases, long-term trends, and advice from health officials both on the local and national level. For stores that have re-opened in the past weeks, Apple is strictly implementing safety requirements. Aside from wearing masks and temperature checks, Apple also mandates strict social distancing inside the stores as well as frequent sanitation.

However, do note that not all open Apple stores accommodate customers inside the shop. Some of the stores are only open for curbside pickups and repairs.
