Software Spotlight: Shiira

img12_shiiraicon.jpgThere is a new browser on the block…it’s name is Shiira (not to be confused with She-Ra, Princess of Power and cousin to He-Man), and is surprisingly awesome.

Shiira is a web browser based on Web Kit and written in Cocoa…their goal is to make a browser that is better and more useful than Safari.

I think they may have achieved their goal with their latest release.

Shiira 2.0b2 is the latest version of the browser and there are some extremely useful and impressive new features in this release.  The innovative sidebar is a fantastic addition to the web browsing experience, and the browser is surprisingly zippy.

I’m very impressed with Shiira…and it may end up being my default browser after a little more testing.

  1. The MBP I received in March of 06 was the first Mac computer I had ever owned. I tried the default web browser for a time, but there was something lacking. I checked a few other sites I frequented ( being one of the big ones) to see if anyone had any decent mac browsers. I also checked out The most recommended browser around April was a browser called Shiira. I used it almost exclusively for 6 or 7 months, until someone introduced me to Camino. I’ve been hooked on Camino ever since.

I will however, give this new version of Shiira a try. Who knows?
