Mac App Store Launching January 6th

December 16, 2010 by Tanner Godarzi 1 Comment

Announced during Apple’s Back To The Mac event in October, The Mac App Store has a set launch date: January 6th, 2011.

During the October event, Steve Jobs gave a launch time frame of 90-days for the Mac App Store. While developers have been submitting their Apps for approval, rumors began to spread of an early launch date of December 13th. Any rumors or potential dates have been squashed through a press release from Apple. The doors to the Mac App Store are opening January 6th.

A quote from the press release hints at the future of the Mac App Store and gives a brief run down of how it works:

“The App Store revolutionized mobile apps,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun. We can’t wait to get started on January 6.”

The Mac App Store will be released as a free update for all Macs running Snow Leopard and will be available the first day of CES 2011.
