Facebook has blown up in the past few years, as evidenced by the popularity of their iPhone app (iTunes link). and the latest version adds push notifications to the mix, plus can sync with your iPhone’s address book to share images and other info. This is a free update, so if you’ve already got the app, go to the App Store to grab your update.

I downloaded it myself an hour ago, put up a test post and a few minutes later, I had my first push notice. Now on to that syncing thing. With it you can add Facebook pics to your contacts, and replace your existing pics. That’s cool for sure, but it also means that you’re passing around your info back to Facebook, as well as all of your friends info. That makes me a touch nervous honestly, but I decided to try it out to see how it works for you, the readers.

Well, almost immediately MobileMe popped up with a contact sync deal, because Facebook links were added to every one of my contacts. I agreed, and continued to wait for the app to continue downloading pics to my address book. As I’m waiting, I notice this big red button that says “Remove Data,” which made me feel a little bit better.

One added bonus is that it found friends on mine on Facebook that I didn’t know had accounts, so I added them as well. I will say that it linked up some people incorrectly, so I had to delete their links, but overall it went pretty well. Now we’ll see how annoying those push notifications get.
