Crittersim is an interesting little program. It is a simulation program that runs a section of a virtual world. There are plants and animals and a semblance of natural selection going on.
After playing with it for a few minutes I find myself both oddly fascinated, and slightly confused.
You have a lot of control over your little corner of the world in this “game” (is it game?), and you can watch your species grow (even creating your own species)…
It’s very interesting. You can download it here.

I don’t care what Crittersim does, but that is the cutest damn icon ever!
I agree with mikelite, I’m downloading it just for the icon…
Great Icon! It’s worth the download just for that!
Hey thanks for spotlighting Crittersim! It was a lot of fun to write and I was missing these kind of apps from the 80s and early 90s. It’s not exactly a game. More a simulation looking at populations and how they grow or shrink. Kind of a dry topic when you put it that way. My goal was to keep it interesting for kids and grownups alike to fiddle with a bit. Tossing in cute graphics and at a price of free there should be a little something for everyone. 🙂
