Tee hee.

Guess what the FedEx fairy just dropped off at my door step?

  1. Lucky you.

I am actually leaving work early today (2:00) so I can get a good spot in line at the Apple store.

    I want my T-shirt!

  2. I guess it was the same fairy! They are arriving! I live in Buck County, north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and my copied of Leopard arrived via FedEx at 11:14 this morning – or – 6 hours and 46 minutes before it goes on sale. Wish me luck as I begin the install process. Cheers, Mark

  3. Lucky you…

I’ve been tracking my shipment at FedEx, and just saw that mine was placed in “Delivery Exception” status, and now my “Priority Overnight” package is not to be delivered until 7pm instead of 12pm.

A call to FedEx support revealed that Apple requested the delay to reduce priority shipping costs, according to the person I spoke with. The strange thing was, I never mentioned that I was waiting for a shipment from Apple, only that my Priority Overnight package that was supposed to arrive by noon had been pushed back to 7pm. The rep knew from that somehow that I was waiting for a shipment from Apple.

I think it’s safe to assume from the reported shipping expense Apple has asked to cut back on, and the wait times on the phone with FedEx coupled with the shipping delays, that Apple has sold far more Pre-Order copies of Leopard than they anticipated.

I had my afternoon all planned out for today too. Since I have the day off work today, I thought for certain that I would have my Macs updated prior to the rest of the family getting home this evening. *sigh*

Oh well, at least it’s still scheduled for delivery today…

  4. First impressions:

Over all the look and feel is more polished. A continued step forward in the evolution of OS X. Most everything I have tested (mail, Safari, Open Spaces, calendar, address book, Finder, etc.) have worked as promised. I have not had time to complete a test of Time Machine.

Net, unlike the “other guys”, the new operating system lives up to the promise. (Note: this is from a guy that was a MS Dos/Windows diehard from 1981 thru December 28, 2005.)

One minor concern, I did get the gray screen of death during the restart at the end of the install. The wait time for help from Apple was 15 mins at 2:30 PM EDT … so … I did a hard restart and everything was fine.

Total time to install was under 90 minutes (including 10 minutes waiting on the gray screen of death).

One final note: I think that the miniature images for icons and cover flow will end up being like Expose … I will wonder how I ever lived without it!

Well there you have it … over all a standard “favorable experience” as expected from Apple and the best $29 I ever spent. I will leave the hardcore technical reviews to the lifetime Apple Fanboys. Have fun!

    Cheers,

    Mark
