And Now For Something Really Different …

I’ve got a few friends of mine who are into the whole “sustainable materials” thing. Me personally, I prefer well-built products, and if they’re made from renewable components, then I consider it a bonus. When one of those friends tipped me off to this company the other day, I figured I’d check it out.

This is the latest lineup from Tape, a company that makes a wide variety of products, including iPad, MacBook Pro, and iPhone cases, made from cork. Seriously? Cork? Well why not? Let’s check out their marketing materials:

Manufactured in East London, the range is handmade from FSC certified fabric backed cork with a custom stitched edging in a selection of colors. The softness of the natural cork makes it an ideal material for covering electronic devises such as the iPad, personal laptops, MP3 players and phones. In addition the base material is super light weight and exceptionally durable allowing for maximum protection of personal devises.

I’ve seen cork used a lot frequently, mostly in flooring. It’s interesting to see it in the iPad case market. They’re also pretty cheap, about $31 or so USD, or 20 British pounds if you live on that side of the pond. If you wanna stand out in a crowd, this may be a good option.
