My Macbook Pro Adventure 2008 begins…

Some of you may remember my iPhone Adventure and Macbook Pro Battery Adventure from July of last year. Both of those situations were problems with my Apple products that required that I drive to Austin (a 4 hour round trip from where I am) to get parts replaced.

Well, after sending my Macbook Pro to Apple twice now, I am left with either the option of sending it back to them once again to let them look at it, OR I can get in the car, drive to Austin and show them that this isn’t working, and what exactly is wrong with it – and hope that they can get it fixed.

SO – I’m off to Austin again, on another Macbook Pro Adventure…I’m sure it’ll be fun.

  3. I hope that it goes well for you. I have been in that store, while visiting a friend in Round Rock. I dropped my PB on my friends floor and it stopped booting. They fixed it while I waited. At the time, I got great service…

    Like everyone, I’m terribly disappointed at the problems you’ve been having but I can’t help but wonder if the problem is software and not hardware – if it were my machine having this problem I’d try one more thing before dumping the box: copy the entire hard disk to an external disk, and do a fresh install of the OS. If the problem goes away, great, if not then I’m certain it’s a hardware problem.

    Have you tried this?

  5. By the way – on the subject of 3rd party memory, put me down as someone who *did* have problems with grade-A brand name 3rd party memory that was certified to work with my old Powerbook. Apparently the very first Aluminum Powerbooks used an oddball power conservation model that slowed the bus down when the machine was idle – and if the RAM wasn’t exactly the right kind, it would freak whenever this happened. Since this particular technique was only used for (it seems) a few months before they changed the design almost nobody was aware of it.

    I ended up having to pull the RAM and put it in my wife’s iBook.

  6. Good luck, hopefully the problems get fixed. And if not, go invert all of the colors on the macs in the store to make the techs freak out ;) At least you can get a good laugh out of the deal.
