so if there’s a seperate tab for ringtones does that mean we won’t be able to use our songs as ringtones? And if we can use songs for ringtones are we going to have to purchase that song twice? Once for ringtones and the other to play on the ipod part.

give it a break. what’s such a deal with these ringtones? never in my life I used different ringtones but those who came with phones… anyway most of the times vibra is on, so I don’t see such a big deal with this. so many more important stuff then ringtones, that I’m expecting from iPhone…

The ringtones thing sounds interesting.. i can’t see why they wouldn’t let you use your music as ringtones? Why would anyone want to buy it seperately?

From the adds on TV/Internet and Radio I would say ringtones business is doing really well

I use iTunes to make Ringtones from my MP3s.
I use iSync to put it on my phone.

I can’t imagine the iPhone will lose this functionality.

Whether or not we can turn out iTunes into ringtones is up to the music labels.

Apple is going into negotiations again, soon. They’ve already given the “You should get rid of DRM” smokescreen to cloud public opinion and keep the subject from returning to variable pricing. Notice how the 99 cent price isn’t even being discussed anymore? It’s cemented. DRM is the subject of the day.

Apple has positioned itself to be fighting for more flexibility with what you buy from Apple. (If you aren’t an Apple customer…. screw you. We are in the business of selling plastic and metal. Our customers pay our bills. They come first.)

Maybe allowing iTunes to be ringtones is a negotiations point.

It’s something the RIAA will want to bilk for more money. Selling low-fi song fragments for $2.99 is what they are used to, and using your iTunes that you already bought is an RIAA no-no.

If Apple charges more for ringtones, customers will blame Apple for the decision and call them greedy.

The better solution for them (if they aren’t allowed) would be not to sell them at all, and instead promote free sounds (instead of music) and allow un-protected AAC and MP3 files to be ringtones. (and screw the RIAA).

As anyone thought of the possibility that you can take your ringtones with you from previous phones on your cingular account?

Just a thought. The carriers have created this bizarre thing where you buy ringtones for your phone but are they transferrable between carriers or different phones?

I don’t buy ringtones. I may just be in the dark on the subject.
