YouTube Find: iPhone Spotted in German Weather Ad

Yesterday I posted a guest post by Melinda Seckington about Apple Spotting. It went over very well, and I have received several emails about different places people have been Apple Spotting – including this German commercial for a weather website. Georg from Munich sent it in, and even translated it for us. Thanks! Georg

Translation:
Phone rings
He: Hi Honey. How’s it going in London?
She: Oh it’s so exhausting. I’m really missing you.
He: Miss you too. Ahm, what’s the weather like?
She: Hail, fog, rain. I’m almost not leaving the hotel.
He looks up the London weather on his iPhone via Wetter.com
She: You can really rely on bad weather in London. What about you? You had dinner already?
Pause. He stares at the iPhone that says the wetaher in London is just great.
She: Honey?
He: Ahm, dinner? No.I’ll have some snacks later.
Slogan: The only reliable partner. Wetter.com in your hand.

  1. Ok, with this translation the fun of the ad get’s lost!!
But I got to admit, it’s an ambiguity which is hard to translate (of the word “naschen”)

He: Ahm, dinner? No.I’ll have some snacks later.

-> As he is saying this, the camera focuses on the red bra. What he is saying: “Ich nasch lieber etwas” has two meanings:

    a) what he is telling his girlfriend: Nah, I haven’t had dinner, I’ll just have a Snack (Naschen in the meaning of nibbling (? thats what the online dicitonary tells me, eating tidbits, sometimes secretly, “stealing” cookie dough for example)
    b) what he is meaning with his utterance: Naschen in a sexual meaning, “vernaschen” or “naschen” as a ‘cute’ expression of having sex

I think through the video this ambiguity was obvious in some ways ;)
