Apple just can’t seem to get a deal done with China Mobile for the iPhone. The current sticking point is the App Store – and it looks like it may end up being a deal breaker.
China Mobile wishes to maintain control and sell applications through the App Store itself – which is something that we all know Apple is never going to allow…no matter how big the market is.
If Apple decides to completely break-off negotiations with China Mobile, there are always other options. China Unicorn and China Telecom are both smaller companies that would most likely welcome the iPhone with much more flexible options…mainly so they can gain an advantage over China Mobile.
Will the iPhone ever make it to China officially? Probably…but not anytime soon.

Screw them, who do they think they are to manage and sell Apps sold in the App Store. Does this mean they want a piece of the iTunes Store sales too? Not likely. With the success of the App Store and the massive population in China they no doubt want to reap the rewards of it. Talk about greedy. Apple needs to stand their ground, and make them agree to their terms or call off talks completely and go with their competitors.
China Mobile has been nothing but greedy this entire time, granted the market for the iPhone and potential income generated is enormous so I’m not all that surprised, but at the end of they day they provide the cellular network, nothing else. They don’t deserve anything extra.
Steve, you call China Mobile greedy? Greedy is charging is charging €490 for a phone that lacks basic features, such as MMS or video recording.
