Fox News: I Swear, Verizon is Still Coming

Nothing is sadder than someone who just can’t admit that they were wrong. For example, the other day I told myself I wasn’t going to eat that entire bag of Oreos. I now realize that I was wrong in that assessment. I have shamed my family.

Back on January 21st, Clayton Morris of Fox News.com posted the following:

Nevertheless, Apple is in talks with both AT&T and Verizon to support the tablet, according to sources within the companies: One version of the device will run on CDMA networks such as Verizon’s, and one will operate on GSM networks like that owned by AT&T.

It goes even further than that, but you get the gist. At this point, we all know that AT&T is the provider for the iPad, and there is no mythical second tablet device yet to speak of. Today though, Clayton just isn’t able to let it go.

Nevertheless, Apple is in talks with both AT&T and Verizon to support the tablet, according to sources within the companies: One version of the device will run on CDMA networks such as Verizon’s, and one will operate on GSM networks like that owned by AT&T.

I have no doubt that Verizon is talking to Apple, just like Apple is talking to everyone else out there about all of their products. But fact is, this device doesn’t currently exist, and I see no reason for it to become reality in the next year. Apple’s not going to roll out an iPad 2.0 come September, it will be January 2011 before it happens again. See, they live by a schedule, and they stick with it. That’s how I know a new iPhone is coming out this summer, so I should hold off if I decide I want to make the plunge.

But in this case, I just don’t see any facts to back this up. It’s just more rumors and speculation that anyone can just pull out of the air, because there’s no corroboration. Do I want it to happen? Sure I do. I just don’t believe it can until this time next year.
