YouTube Find: Crazy Ones (Think Different 2007)

This is, I assume, a fan made commercial this is an interesting combination of the legendary “Think Different” ad campaign and the more current style of iPod advertising. I love this video, and I thought you guys might enjoy it…take a look…

  1. The message of this ad is amazing. Any idea who made it and where it can be downloaded in a higher quality?

  2. @Spencer, actually apple didn’t make this ad, it was one of the creative people who likes apple (although there is no proof that he does/does not use a Macintosh)

@Kwipper – Now why would anyone, let alone Apple, build a computer based around gaming? That would be silly to build a computer JUST to play games for the average person, e.g. an arcade machine, just made to play games. I will assume that you meant a gaming machine in terms of graphical and processor punch – in which case the 8 Core Mac Pro could probably beat a lot of “gaming” pc’s if it was loaded with Windows XP / Vista.

The Mac Pro currently comes with ATI Radeon x1950XT’s (or pros maybe) as the highest card, although I am sure there is a way to get the NVIDIA 8800GTX working with it (probably not in SLI mode) if it boots into windows.

Gaming the Mac Pro can probably stomp most games atm, if not the only thing holding it back is the no 8800/SLI – those 2 Quad Core Xeons pack one hell of a punch, way faster than any normal Core 2 CPU

  3. I’m a 60 year old grandmother who five months ago started the blog http://www.grammology.com If I weren’t crazy it wouldn’t have happened. Three friends, Miles, Linda and me…said what if we can and we did..My first computer was an Apple. Your ad is provoking, why not be crazy and try? My blog; my crazy dream, which hopes to bring grandma’s like me back as someone who is wise with experience and would love to help you in life, as we’ve lived, loved and hated life with joy, sadness and gratitude, to name a few. I get what your saying, I did it with the help of my partners and we are on our way to success. Hope you will be as well.Your ad tells us to go for it..Will you?

  4. Yes… but what about gaming… on a Mac. I have yet to see Apple create computer based around gaming.

  5. @Kwipper

It is gaming, that has to be based around a Mac. Even if Mac’s throw the required hardware, it is up to the software developers to support OS’s, so if you’re referring to having more games playable on the Mac, then tell that to the developers of the games.

  6. @Kwipper

Get a Mac Pro, Play Hard

Through Boot Cam (Boot Natively Like a PC) or the new Parallels Desktop 3 ( its virtualization like none other and has support for 3d gamming now) Or play games written for the platform

  7. I don’t think a fan made that ad…Richard Dryfuss was the narrarator….he is speaking in a Baz Luhrmann voice style though

  8. The voice is from the apple “think different” commercials from the 90’s, the original commercial will sent even more shivers down your back
my favorite commercial of all time
I believe the graphics is fan drawn, as… apple didn’t make this before, why would they spend money to upgrade/update an outdated ad campaign? etc etc

  9. The “Think Different” campaign, particularly the original of this commercial, remains my all-time favorite commercial of all time. The message is powerful. The delivery is powerful. No other commercial has ever come close. Just proof that genius is flowing in the veins of Apple, with and without Jobs at the helm. It’s an amazing company that is truly changing the world for the better.

  10. “‘You’re name is Spencer. Who’s the fag now?’

    pwned.”

Uhh, that guy can’t even spell. Don;t insult people if you don’t even have a basic grasp on english grammar.

There are macs that can powerfully play games. My macbook pro can run games like World of Warcraft at around 60-70fps. It’s not Mac’s fault, it’s their audience. Macs are generally built for design professionals. If enough of an outcry from mac users wanting games happened, companies would design their games for macs.

Macs CAN play games, if companies design them.

Yes macs are capable of processing high quality games but the fact cannot be denied that you pay much more for that little glowing apple on the case than you do for the actual hardware. You can buy all the fixings in a mac for cheaper via sites like New Egg.com. So why buy one ? The only real reason is preference of OS. I personally love windows XP and linux. But I think its important for people to get it out of their heads that macs have some magic power buried deep inside them. And with the introduction of the intel chip inside newer macs , the differences between the two are no longer valid.
Now I’m not bashing the machines because I use them in my workplace, and I honestly see no difference in performance between my mac vs my PC. However my only beef with apple is how they love to lie in their “Think Different” adds against the very apathetic Microsoft corp.
But people , lets grow up alright … They are just computers , and as an Graphic designer, I see nothing more than a mere tool of a trade.

Yes please grow up SEAN, its people like you who ASSUME this (I have a mac, I must be cool) thing on a daily basis!

  14. Making mash-ups of your favorite songs and creating some “sick” podcasts is not changing the world. Writing code and creating innovative new programs is. And what OS is best suited for that….hmmm….

  15. I know this wasnt put out by apple, but prolly a big fan. the only thing i dont like about apple is that they try to convince people that being trendy, rebellious, creative, and changing the world is directly connected to raising the price of apple stocks. Macs are really nice. Im just not a fan of the marketing

  16. That was rather brilliant. I much prefer this over the original. This is one of those ads that would influence me to look deeper into Mac. Lovely work to the author.

  17. macs are nice. the ad was nice, not because of the message that mac users are superhuman or anything, just kind of inspirational for the oddballs who really do change things.
i use windows xp, vista, linux, OS X all almost on a daily basis. being a CS student, i prefer linux, because i can apply the concepts i’m learning, its free, and its quite powerful. xp is nice because of mainstream support, and its simple enough in most cases for nearly anyone to use. Macs are great for the fact that they are ridiculously simple to use, quite stable, and usually have great hardware. However you could build a pc of equal power for a lot less, though you dont get the OS.

  18. “Yes please grow up SEAN, its people like you who ASSUME this (I have a mac, I must be cool) thing on a daily basis!”

See, the problem with this statement is that every single person I know that uses a Mac is a total douche about it and tries to act like they’re above regular PC users. Like somehow the fact that their computer is shiny and white, and has a severely crippled software library when compared to Windows, that makes them more creative, or interesting, or whatever the shit Apple ads are endlessly blabbing on about these days.

It has a different GUI and hardware that’s damn near impossible to upgrade. That’s it. Having a little icon dock and some widgets doesn’t automatically mean you’re a creative genius and you’re going to change the world. It means you just paid a few thousand dollars for a slick GUI you could easily get for free with any of the tons of Linux distributions, and by doing so you severely limited your software options. I’m not talking about games, either, I’m talking about major applications that can only be run on the Windows platform. A computer is not a lifestyle, it’s a tool. You don’t see people going around with Kobalt stickers on their cars because that’s the brand of screwdriver they think has the best handle. You don’t see thousands of fan videos on Youtube talking about the reasons that Whirlpool appliances are the best and everything else is for uncreative losers. It’s just….you know what, forget it. You can’t reason with a cult.

  19. Creative, but the original is better… this version wouldn’t end up on television because people don’t like to read ads (seriously). People are drawn more towards pictures, instead of text.

  20. Ha ha ha ha!

Surely you’re misfits! But rebels and trouble makers? Please, you geeks will have a heart attack due to social anxiety before you attempt to say something against the rules.

One thing PC users can do that Mac users can’t?

    Shut the fuck up!

Apple gets respect from me when it comes to design, but now that Vista is out, it’s over for them. Now they have to go to extremes and do “Mac Vs. PC” ads cuz they’re desperate… Spencer is right, no matter how gay his name is.

  21. Nothing special. A bit cheesy, if you ask me. Maybe apple would like to change the world and actually make iPods sync both fucking ways, better yet, get rid of the whole crappy sync system. And give it a proper EQ for christ sake!

  22. i was not impressed. it was just animated text. the commissioned apple ads had images and graphics that moved you and worked with the narration. this was just the narration displayed. not impressed.

  23. Yeah, Apple really changes the world with all the help they provide those in need with charity donations!!!!

  24. Hahaha ok bill listen . Theres no need to be hostile . If yo read my post then you would know that i’m actually on the same page as you. That is, if you can read…. But anywho , I agree that those who think than macs can do something a PC can are complete dumb asses.
