Take Leopard for a Spin – or take a look anyway…

leopardscreenshots.jpgOk, so as I write this the Keynote isn’t online yet…BUT…the new Apple.com site design is, and one of the main features of it showcases Leopard’s new features, including videos….and they are fantastic.

While I don’t know if there was a “Reality Distortion Field” apparent today, I will say that I am impressed with what Leopard has to offer. Is it as revolutionary as multi-touch or any of the other things some of us were hoping for? No…but it looks beautiful, and I can honestly say I’m interested in most of the new features…something I couldn’t say about Tiger.

Particularly, the New Finder, Desktop, iChat, and Quick Look are features that I am really looking forward to. Time Machine too for that matter…although I don’t know if I want to be able to recall EVERYTHING that I download.

😉

  1. We can only hope that they skip OS X.6, X.7, X.8, X.9, X.95… Unless of course Multitouch comes out before then.

Hmmm, maybe in a few months we’ll see Leopard, Multitouch Edition.

    Still no word on iLife…

  2. Hey, I’m happy! I’m sitting in front of my Dell Laptop (EW. EW.) with Windows XP, and I’m taking Safari for a test drive. I’m so happy! I can not wait until October. I’m holding off on my shiny new Mac until then.

But yes, I’d say Safari for Windows was the highlight of my day. Now I just have to wait to watch the keynote.

  3. I think they’ll save multi-touch for OS 11. But even though I was initially not impressed with the keynote based on coverage at macrumors.com, I think Leopard is progressing nicely. They showed us basically 2 new items and 8 that we already knew about, so I wonder what the other 290 new things are???

  4. @Bryan

Yeah, I can understand being disappointed based on coverage, but when you look at the videos of it in action, I think it’s worth getting excited about.

  5. Leopard is looking really sweet, actually. I like the thought of having “Cover Flow” in Finder. It’s also great to see that they didn’t go the Microsoft way and cover everything in transparency and shininess, and have stuck to OS X’s minimalistic look.

Will definitely be sticking Leopard on my Mini when it comes out.

Incidentally, I found a piece of software called Uno that re-skins everything in OS X to give it a unified look, and gets rid of all of the “brushed metal” rubbish. I’m in no way affiliated with the makers of the software, but I think anyone who likes Leopard’s more consistent look will probably appreciate it.

  6. Oh, and a touchscreen iMac with multitouch Leopard? Is that the single best idea I’ve ever read in a post’s comments or what!?

    😀
