Remember That Post About Bumpers? Maybe They Are Cool.

So last week I wrote about Bumpers, the new Apple case for the iPhone 4 that no one really seemed to care about. In fact, here’s what I wrote:

Apple has a strong accessory base, and many different manufacturers make cases for every Apple product under the sun. One of my favorites, incase, has a really cool slider case that I plan on getting for my new iPhone 4 when I get it later this month. So why the band? What’s the point?

Well, now I have an answer. App Advice got their hands on an iPhone 4 with bumpers installed, and it looks pretty cool. As you can see from the pics, the case wraps around the stainless steel band, but also has a slight lip to stop damage on the glass surfaces. Ultimately, it keeps the overall look of your iPhone intact, but also provides a bit of protection. Consider it the minimalist case.

I love my incase slider, but one thing that I’ve been on the fence about is the size of the case and the aesthetics. The iPhone 3GS is too slippery for my hands, so I like the case for its matte backing. But I don’t like the added thickness, plus it takes away from the look of the phone. That’s good – I don’t want thieves ganking my phone – but the show off in me occasionally wants the extra looks.

I may have to retract my previous statement, however. I’m pre-ordering my iPhone 4 tomorrow, and since incase hasn’t made any announcements yet, I may order a bumper with it. That blue one looks particularly awesome – and matches my old truck – but I dig the green and black, too. Oh, decisions.

I’ve included two more pics of the Bumpers installed after the break.
