iWork and the iPhone

Table of Contents

When the iPad first came out, I bought Pages right away, because I figured that I’d be using it a lot. So far, that’s not really been the case, and that’s mostly because of the syncing problem. As of right now, apps that live on the iPad stay on the iPad and don’t go anywhere else. Sure, you can e-mail it or use the iTunes file sharing system, but they’re clunky alternatives. It’s nothing that works so perfect as Dropbox or even MobileMe’s own iDisk.

However, there are moments when I wish I could edit a doc on the road and I don’t have my iPad. That can be frustrating. According to 9 to 5 Mac though, help is right around the corner.

They’ve got screenshots of iWork on the iPhone, in various stages of operation. They claim that the iWork suite – Pages, Numbers and Keynote – will be available for the iPhone soon, as a universal binary.

So is this true? Well, as usual, I hope so. But fact is that this could all be very easily faked, with a few shrunken down iPad screenshots. On the other hand, it does make sense, since other desktop apps such as iMovie have made their way onto the iPhone, so it’s not a huge stretch. For the moment though, let’s file this one in the rumor bin, and see where it goes from here.
