I’m a bit of a know-it-all – something my wife loves oh so much – and when I see someone on TV who I recognize from somewhere but can’t figure out where, I’ll bust out the iPhone, pull up imdb.com, and figure it out. Problem is though, surfing that site on the iPhone isn’t easy, what with lots of different links stacked onto each other and my sausage-link fingers. In fact, this happened just the other day. I was watching G.I.Joe on the AppleTV with the wifey, and I saw Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, and I couldn’t figure out where.
Well today, IMDB release an iPhone app, so I decided to test it out with my little bit of trivia from the other night. I searched for GIJoe and it pulled up right away. I could watch a trailer, get the details, or check out the cast. I find Rachel Nichols and click on her name. That’s when it got interesting.
Right underneath the main info section, was “Known For,” a section which isn’t on the traditional IMDB website. At the very top was Star Trek (2009), so I clicked that link, went through the cast and there it was – she was Gaila, the green half-naked alien from the first part of the movie. I knew I had seen her somewhere.
The best part about this app seems to be its speed. I can bounce from character to person to movie, back and forth very quickly, with minimal lag. It means that I can find out who did what quicker, and get back to watching the movie.
Oh, and it’s free.
Apps like this are my favorite to use. They have a very specific function, and do something that I need frequently, but don’t add a lot of superfluous BS that I don’t need. I have a feeling this is one of my new top picks.
