DIY Apple Watch Docks

An Apple Watch itself is already expensive enough, especially with people who are on a tight budget. Sure, an Apple Watch dock or stand sounds like a great accessory to support your Apple Watch. However, they can cost quite a lot, too. After spending on an Apple Watch, you might be thinking, why not just make a DIY Apple Watch dock instead of buying one?

In case you’re strapped for cash, these DIY Apple Watch docks should be enough to hold your Apple Watch in place. Considering your creativity, you can even make it look stylish and stand out. Here are some ways you can make your own Apple Watch Dock.

Easy Corner Apple Watch Dock

If you’re looking for the easiest and fastest DIY Apple Watch dock, this is it. You only need a big bulldog paperclip, your Apple Watch charger, a piece of cloth, and the loop accessory that was inside your Apple Watch packaging. Here’s what you should do:

  1. Place the cloth on the corner of the table parallel to the sides. Make sure that around two inches of the two sides of the cloth are hanging down.
  2. Clamp the cloth onto the corner of the table using the paperclip.
  3. Remove the handles of the paperclip.
  4. Place the Apple Watch charger on top of the paperclip.
  5. Wrap the charger and the paperclip with the cloth on the table from top to bottom.
  6. Twist the remaining cloth at the bottom to secure the charger and the clip together.
  7. Tuck the loop accessory from the bottom to secure the twisted cloth in place.

That’s it! You can now place your Apple Watch on this DIY Apple Watch charging dock. Just be careful not to hit the corner of this table, as it might cause your Apple Watch to fall off.

Retro Apple Watch Dock

Do you have the whole weekend to do a project? This one might interest you. If you need a dock not just for your Apple Watch but also for your iPhone, this DIY retro Apple Watch dock might be for you. While it may take some time, doing this in your free time will be absolute fun.

For starters, you will need some tools such as a drill, a chisel, a hammer, and a nail. In addition, you’ll need a block of wood as well as Apple chargers (for your Apple Watch and iPhone). Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Drill two holes through a block of wood. One hole should be 16mm in diameter for the Apple Watch charger while the other should only be big enough for a lightning cable to go through.
  2. On one face of the block, chisel out a line of wood that would serve as the channel for the cords of the chargers. This face of the block would serve as the bottom of the dock.
  3. Insert the chargers into the holes and place them on top of the block.
  4. Along the line of the two holes, hammer down a nail beside the smaller hole. This will serve as the support for your iPhone.
  5. If you’re worried about the nail scratching your iPhone, you can place a cloth over the nail or replace it entirely with another tall piece of wood.

Now, you have a charging stand for both your Apple Watch and your iPhone. You can charge your iPhone upright and your Apple Watch laid down sideways. Adjust the chargers and the iPhone support as you see fit. You can even add another tiny block of wood on top for your eyeglasses.

Apple Watch Dock with iPad Stand

What about a stand that can support not just your Apple Watch but also your iPad? Similar to the previous sample, you will also need a couple of blocks of wood to create this stand. It will take a few hours to complete and maybe half a day for the glue to fully dry. Nonetheless, it will all be worth it, as the end result looks great.

Aside from blocks of wood, you’ll also need glue for wood and sandpaper to sand the wood to shape. Here’s how to do it:

  1. With a rectangular block of wood, chisel out a part along the length of the block close to its edge. This channel would serve as the support of the iPad. Adjust the width, depth, and angle of this channel in such a way that it would be able to support the iPad in place.
  2. With another piece of wood, carve out a cylindrical shape whose diameter could go through an Apple Watch.
  3. Cut the cylindrical wood so that it’s 4 inches in height.
  4. Drill a hole through the cylindrical wood so that the Apple Watch charging cable can go through. Drill the same size through the woodblock where you would place the cylindrical wood upright for the cable to go through.
  5. Chisel out a channel at the bottom of the woodblock for the cable so that the block can sit flat on your desk.
  6. Sand all the wood pieces down to shape so there are no sharp edges.
  7. After inserting the cable into the cylindrical wood and wood block, glue its bottom onto the top of the woodblock. It should be closer to the corner to give ample space for the iPad to stand in.

And now you have a nice, simple charging dock for your Apple Watch that can also serve as an iPad stand.
