Headphones to Prevent Hearing Loss Designed by 16-year-old

September 30, 2015 by Noemi Leave a Comment

While it’s not unheard of, it’s not every day that you hear about a teenager creating something novel that is actually of good use. So when I was told about the AEGIS headphones, designed by a 16-year-old, my curiosity was aroused.

I could be wrong, but you probably use your iPhone to listen to music. A lot.

And you probably like listening to your beats loudly – despite the fact that we all know that our hearing can be damaged if the volume is too loud.

Enter Kingsley Cheng, who, together with his dad, developed AEGIS headphones to prevent hearing loss.

Did you know that 1.1 billion youth worldwide risk hearing loss just because they’re listening to music, movies, and media at harmful levels? That’s not counting the adults.

The solution that Kingsley and his dad came up with involves exclusive a digital decibel equalizer and active noise cancellation technology, which optimizes the volume of the quietest and/or loudest recordings while the 85dB volume limiting circuitry ensures that audio always stays at safe levels.

It’s wireless and comes with smartphone controls as well. Its battery life is 14 hours. Enough for a day’s worth of listening.

They have launched a Kickstarter campaign, which has already exceeded its goals. It’s not surprising since you only need to pledge $99 to receive your own AEGIS Pro Headphones with the choice of gold, black, white, blue or red.

Watch the AEGIS in action.

If you want good quality audio without harming your hearing, then this is one product worth considering.

Back the project up and get your perks! Also check out their website here.
