Reports cropped up all over the web in the last few days that pirated copies of popular Apple software could “contain a Trojan horse that hijacks Macs, and leaves them open to further attacks.”
First the software in question was iWork ’09, but now further reports are appearing that suggest pirated copies of Adobe Photoshop CS4 could also be carrying the Trojan.
Companies like Symantec are all over this, sending our press releases and offering themselves up for interviews regarding the malicious software.
Bottom line is – Macs are getting more and more popular, and with that popularity will come malicious software. The Trojans are out there people…download at your own risk.

Thanks Paul, and I agree that as long as I’m not stealing software I have little to fear, but that doesn’t mean that things aren’t going to get risker as time goes on. I keep telling my wife that “macs don’t get viruses” The first time I get proven wrong, I’ll never live it down.

As a side note, I’m sorry, but I have a hard time caring about a trojan that is showing up in software that people are stealing. Yes, I understand that at some point it is a possibility that it could show up in a commercial install, but then I would have to question the legitimacy of the developer.
The best antivirus for the Mac is don’t download torrents from pirate sites. Boom.
