2 Things you WILL NOT see from Apple in 2009

Each day the rumors get dumber and dumber, and the most current collection of crap from Boy Genius Report is a poster child for every that is wrong with rumor mongering.

In this report which says almost nothing at all, there is allusions that Apple will release a $99 netbook (the last point in an article ALL about Apple suggests that At&t’s first $99 netbook WON’T be Windows based…alluding to an OSX or iPhone OS based device), a QWERTY keyboard on the iPhone, and a few other tidbits of nonsense.

Just to clarify – here’s a list of 2 Things you WILL NOT see from Apple in 2009.

1) A Physical Qwerty Keyboard on the iPhone – There will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER…(deep breath)….NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be a physical Qwerty keyboard on the iPhone. The day Apple releases an iPhone with a physical Qwerty keyboard on it is the day I stop writing on this site.

It will NEVER happen.

2) Apple releasing a $99 Netbook – Look we’ve all heard of this company called Apple before, right? We have SOME kind of idea about how they do business don’t we? They don’t do low-end. Even subsidized low-end. If Apple did release a Netbook and it was subsidized through an At&t 3G data plan, I could see it being less expensive than a traditional Macbook sure — but not $99…that’s even undercutting the iPhone.

Best case scenario, in my opinion, is that the iPhone goes down to $99, and we see a “netbook” of some kind in the $299 to $599 range.

This stuff, again, is just getting absurd.

Of course, I’m getting to a point where all I can do is complain about it…and I promise, I will try to come up with something else to talk about…but MAN – it’s just getting so out of hand, I don’t know what to do.

What do you think?

  1. “Best case scenario, in my opinion, is that the iPhone goes down to $199”
The iPhone already is at $199. Conceivably it could go down to $99 for the low end model.

As for a NetBook, I still think that a iTablet (think iPod Touch with a bigger screen) is much more likely.

  2. Let me take a peak into my crystal ball. I do not see a cheap netbook in Apple’s future. No physical keyboard either on any future iPhone. I do see a very high possibility of an iTablet that will be larger than the iPod Touch and it will be wildly popular.

  3. “The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.”

Linux. What does Apple have to do with this.
The way people read so much into a rumour.

  4. picture a netbook size keyboard with an iPhone dock and battery pack for $99 Your phone is the screen and mouse and the keyboard is separate. It can all be done with OS 3.0 with Apple’s blessing!!!!

  5. How do you iTablet fans figure you’ll type on one? Larger than an iTouch would you lay it down on the table to type? Or tilt it on a stand to speed up the rate at which you get carpal tunnel? I’ve been wondering this since rumors started flying around

  6. So I’ve read the offending article. Two things become apparently clear. 1. The Phone will get it’s normal yearly update, this is a no brainer. 2. The $99 netbook that won’t use a Windows OS, could only be another Linux, YES LINUX netbook, not forgetting which netbook OS started the whole shebang off !!!.
It is aparent to me that people are so desperate for an Apple netbook, that in very simple statements too much is read as oh Apple Netbook. With 3.0 the and maybe a blogger app the iPhone/iPod touch basically becomes a Netbook in its self. Here the criteria. 1. Small (Duh) 2. realy small slow to use keyboard. 3. 8gb/16gb ssd hard drive (well it is in practice) 4. An full size Internet browser. 5. An e-mail client. 6. Cut Copy and Paste, and so on. I own a iPod touch, and to be quite honest with 3.0 it will turn into all the Netbook you require. Small, Light and fun, and the iphone doubley so !!!

  7. $299 for an Apple netbook is too low, I don’t see Apple releasing a netbook for anything less than $599, ever. I actually don’t think Apple will release a netbook this year at all, it is much more likely that Apple will focus on their Mobile OSX platform and improve it as much as they can.

I would also guess that Jobs would like to spend a few months mulling the device over before it is released making sure it is as good as it can be before a release. Jobs isn’t returning until this Summer, not leaving him very many months to mull the design and UI choices over.
