Apple today announced that at least some of the rumors started by TUAW are true. The next version of OSX will be called “Snow Leopard”, and it will not showcase any new features.
“We have delivered more than a thousand new features to OS X in just seven years and Snow Leopard lays the foundation for thousands more,” said Bertrand Serlet, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “In our continued effort to deliver the best user experience, we hit the pause button on new features to focus on perfecting the world’s most advanced operating system.”
The biggest part of TUAW’s rumor, however, was that Apple would be ditching PPC support – and there is no indication of that from Apple’s press release. They also do not say anything about it being available in Jan of 2009.
We will have to wait and see if their are more details between now and the release.
