I agreed witht he comments. I think we just have a different target audience. Personally, I feel that iWork’08 is more than we normal users need.

I think iWork is indeed still a product in the making as far as Numbers and Pages are concerned and when it come to a perfect compatibility with the corporate world where Office is the norm. For regular home user, it is already perfectly suited. We will have to wait a year or two to see a more pro version.

The report by Mossberg is however largely inaccurate regarding Keynote. It is a much better software than Power Point already. Its true value if properly presented to corporations, could make it a powerful app. Moreover, iWork 08 does bring A LOT of significant new functions in Keynote (instant Alpha and smart builds to name a few) in contrary to Mossberg’s comment so I am not sure how much he really knew keynote and check the 08 version.

I could not agree with you more.

I think that pointing out the features it doesn’t have is important to those who might be advanced Office users so that they know what they are getting, but you’re right that Apple isn’t targeting the advance Office user in the first place.

I think that he has missed the point a bit in iWork ’08. I don’t think apple are trying to directly take on Microsoft (*yet*) in the office suite department. iWork is great for what it is, an application for Joe Bloggs off the street, fantastic for normal word processing needs, and brilliantly simple at creating powerful speadsheets.

Where iWork ‘falls down’, is in advanced areas used primarily by big business. However, I would argue that this is not a failing, but simply not required by the target audience.
