Gizmodo has put together a great comparison on the cost of the iPhone vs. other mobile devices. It makes it clear that your cheapest option is the original iPhone. Users who are thinking of upgrading will have to decide if 3G is worth the extra $160 over two years that it will cost to upgrade.

It also shows how much cheaper the iPhone is overall than competitors like the HTC Tilt, and HTC Mogul, and the Verizon XV6800. While none of them are THAT much more expensive than the iPhone, its really nice to see an Apple product coming in significantly cheaper than the competition.

  1. I wasn’t aware that AT&T removed the 200 SMS messages from the data plan. Is there anywhere they’ve announced/released that? Or is this just a hunch?

  2. It doesn’t help that 3G is missing from most of the country. I asked my local AT&T store how soon 3G will be coming to my area and the response was not this year. So I called AT&T and they said “I sure wish they would give date of the release of 3G into to different areas.” So my conclusion is why would I pay for something that I am not going to get to use. I just picked up a 16GB Iphone so I wpould have plenty of space to store apps. I will not be upgrading any time soon Thanks….

  3. Great comparison. Still, I think 3G is worth extra $80 per year. That’s if you do use the internet on the go.

The thing that I don’t understand though is why did they take away the SMSs? That sucks.
