Apple Introduces New MacBook Pros with Intel Core i5 and i7 Processors

Look at what was in my inbox this morning.

New MacBook Pros, all featuring the Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, Nvidiea GeFirce GT 330M graphics processors and longer battery life. So how’s it all break down? Here’s the list of differences, upon first glance (and relying on memory):

13-inch MBP

  • 2.4 or 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • NVIDIA GeForce 320M Graphics card
  • 10-hour battery

15-inch MBP

  • 2.4 or 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 or 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 processor
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 or 512MB of ram
  • 8-9 hr battery

17-inch MBP

  • 2.53 Intel Core i5 or 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 Processor
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 256 or 512MB of ram
  • 8-9 hr battery

Drive options:

  • 500GB @5400 or 7200 rpm
  • 128, 256 or 512GB SSD

Random thoughts and first impressions:

  • I’m not positive on this one, but it looks like the 17-inch model came down a tick as well, which is also pretty nice.
  • Did the 15-inch MBP have an option for an anti-glare display before? Also, looks like you can get a 15-inch with a 1680X1050 hi-res display, as well. Not quite 1080P or anything, but damned close.
  • 17-inch has always had the anti-glare, but was is 1920X1200 before?
  • $1300-$1450 for a SSD? Wow. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have it. But just not for that price.
  • Were I looking to buy a MBP today, I’d be having a hard time deciding which 15-inch I’d want. That said, the 13-inch base model now is comparable to the 15-incher I’m typing this on right now. That’s depressing and sweet all at the same time.
  • 17-inch has an ExpressCard/34 slot? Has that always been standard?
