This is a very interesting video from Macworld 2002. It is the introduction of the iMac G4. In my opinion, the best looking computer Apple has ever designed. I never really understood why the design didn’t last longer…the current iMac looks like a bloated iPod on a stick to me…and I’ve never liked it. The funny thing about this video is that Steve Jobs actually spends the first part of the iMac G4 introduction describing the iMac G5 almost exactly, then talking about what a terrible idea that would be for a computer.
Yes, there are differences from the machine he describes and what ultimately became the iMac G5…still, it’s very interesting how is opinion changed from 2002 to 2004.
I liked that design a lot too, but I love the G5 design I got 2 of those myself and 4 in my family.
I’m a little disappointed to see their iconic white disappear with this new line being metal. Ah well.
@Steve
Yeah, but remember, all of that is unsubstantiated rumor at this point. If they do go with a metal look that will line them up, visually, with their Macbook Pro line, which is inconsistent with Apple’s history.
Still might happen, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t….unless the Macbooks go metal too.
Yikes! Sound quality is terrible!
That’s what the Joy of Tech said to the new iMac G5 in September 04:

Probably, they were right.
