VIDEO: Microsoft’s PDC 08 video…just…what the hell?

The Seinfeld/Gates thing was weird. The “I’m a PC” thing was better, but one could argue that it was a concession that Apple was certainly making a mark if MS had to directly respond. The Mojaive thing was just kind of pointless, because in a controlled environment any OS is going to look awesome.

This…THING…in the video below, though, is…just beyond words. I understand what they’re trying to do…but it just isn’t working…and they seriously need to fire this Ad team and go another direction.

What did you think? Could you make it all the way through?

  1. That is horrid. They really need to realize their stupid try at comedy would have been great in the 70s or 80s, but um now it is just stupid.

  2. So bad that half of me thinks that it be a spoof. However on reflection, it fits perfectly with the MS “experience” (if that’s not a misnomer) – bloated, bland and doesn’t work.
Just shows how accurate the Apple commercials are – imagine a room full of “PC” characters in Redmond’s marketing department approving the budget for this amateur and childish nonsense, thinking that’s it’s in any way cool and smart.
The first rule when using humour in advertising is to make sure that the joke doesn’t rebound onto the product…

  3. you know what…

    THAT WAS HILARIOUS…HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    STUPID BUT HILARIOUS….

i hate pc’s but that one really gave me a long laugh…hehehhehehehehehehehhe

    LMFAO

  4. It was supposed to be a joke about those stupid promos and how they suck, but the problem is that they ran the ‘stupid promo’ for 3 minutes. It would have been ok/funny if they had cut it off after like 20 seconds and then berated ‘Brian’.

  5. Apple should use this ad themselves as another reason to switch to Mac in its get a Mac campaign!
Why did he want to take the coffee with him @ the end it was so obviously empty by the sound it made when he put it on the table.

  6. Aw, geez! I agree with Eric M. Three minutes worth of that was torture. Oh, which reminds me… eat your vegetables, or I’ll make you watch it again!

  7. WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT!!!
First I thought “it can’t be real…” but I think it is.
And your right Michael, I didn’t make it all the way through, I skipped to the end.
I’m free-lance designer/marketer and I could have done a better campaign than that

  8. This came across as pretty cheesy and low-brow – is that really the target demographic Microsoft is aiming for these days? If so, Apple has got NOTHING to worry about.

  9. Wow.. that’s pretty much all I can say.. wow…

I agree with Maurice about taking the coffee cup, it was empty!! and WTF? that’s such a minor detail that makes no difference

Mac vs. PC ads FTW.. people like those, they are clever, and funny, get your attention, people talk about them and get the Apple name out there. I don’t hear anyone talking about Microsoft’s stupid marketing campaign but I do hear about the Mac vs. PC ads when new ones come out.
